An Artist’s Retrospective II

We have been full timing for almost 18 months now! One of the many things that we like about this lifestyle is that we get to go and explore many different inspiring places. We have also met many wonderful people along the way. We have loved the whole experience and, as we reflect on this time, we are very happy with our decision to travel and live full time in our RV.

As many of you know, David’s passion is photography and mine is painting. When we are traveling a lot, David takes lots of photographs. When we slow down and stay in a place for a bit, I get to indulge in my passion. Since we arrived in Florida and the weather has been great, I have been able to paint outside numerous days in a row. I wanted to share with you some of the paintings that I have done over the past few months.

This first painting is of Grand Tetons National Park in Wyoming. This National Park is still one of our favorite places. I have painted Oxbow Bend several times and it is particularly beautiful at sunrise when you can see the reflection of the Grand Tetons in the water.

As most of you know, David and I went to Alaska and spent the summer there. We drove our camper along the Alaska Highway through Canada. It was an unforgettable trip and truly a bucket list item for us. We had lots of amazing experiences. The scenery and landscape in both Alaska and Canada were breath-taking. We camped for several days at Muncho Lake in British Columbia. It was one of the most glorious lakes that we saw in Canada and we camped right beside the lake. This was the view from our campsite:

As we made our way to and from Alaska, we saw incredible wildlife which was very exciting. When we were in Denali National Park, we saw many brown bears (grizzly bears). But that was not the only place that we encountered them. We saw lots of black bears and brown bears just walking along the sides of the highways. It was a sight to behold. Here’s one of the brown bears that we saw while we were in Denali National Park:

After returning to the lower 48 and spending some time in Portland, we made our way to Florida. As we drove cross the country, the air began to get cooler and there were signs of Fall everywhere. We saw aspens that were showing off their bright foliage. This painting was inspired by those sights:

Once we arrived in Florida, fall temperatures turned to summer temperatures. While we were in Cedar Key, we camped right on the water. We enjoyed seeing some of the most stunningly beautiful sunsets. Cedar Key and its sunsets served as the inspiration for these two paintings:

Both from our campsite.

Finally, here are a couple of still life paintings that I enjoyed creating over the past few months.

We still feel very fortunate to be able to travel full time throughout the United States. We have no regrets about having made this lifestyle choice. The past 18 months have been full of adventures and those experiences have greatly enriched our lives. We do appreciate your continued friendship and your willingness to follow us on this wonderful journey. We look forward to sharing many more of our experiences through our photography, art, and our blog.

  2. I have loved looking at your artwork. I sense the freedom in your painting that you have wanted for so long–beautiful colors and bold brushstrokes. I’m still working in the dab-dab-dab school of art which makes me much happier than precise brushstrokes. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

    1. Thanks so much! I am enjoying working in a much looser style now. We are planning on being in VA in January. I’d love to catch up with you while we are there. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas season!

  3. Beautiful paintings! As much as I enjoy the mountains (love the Tetons), I’d have to say the two paintings of sunset at Cedar Key are my favorites. Enjoy your travels and tapping into your creativity!
